Things You Need to Know – M12 Changes

Protection from Screamin' Jay Hawkins

http://wp.me/p5VSx-1d3

A new core set, a new batch of changes. Nothing here that really shakes anything up too much besides just two new terms for things we already talk about. One of them looks really, really weird.

Hexproof (This creature can’t be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.)

This isn’t the one that looks really, really weird. What was lovingly referred to as “Trollshroud” has now been templated to read Hexproof. Hex, which means “to put a spell on” makes sense for the keyword.

But why not Trollshroud?

Lotus Cobra is Evil – Replaced

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, it’s a new Lotus Cobra is Evil. This time, Sixten takes a look at the possible new M12 Planeswalkers. I’m sure you’ve seen that image, right? Well, someone else noticed it too. And she’s pissed.

Lose Hope is funny because it can be played in the same deck as Liliana.

Alright, I’ll show myself out.

Reader Email – Where All the White Symbols At?

http://wp.me/p5VSx-1cj

I get emails every once in a while (If you didn’t know, the style/grammar guides have said that you don’t need the hyphen in email anymore). You’re free to send them to me (my website @ Gmail dot com) and I’ll try and answer them as best as I can. Sometimes I get email questions about topics I’ve got slated to write up. So that’s what you’re going to get today.

How are you?

I’m fine, thanks, how are you?

I really enjoy the work you’ve been doing with mtgcolorpie.com; especially the analysis pieces.

Suck up. No, I’m glad someone reads my work out there. I hope he secretly likes all the script stuff I do. Odds are someone has to.

I have a question that I’d like to ask you. Would you happen to know why some cards are designed with single colored mana costs and others with double? Beyond the obvious reason of increasing or decreasing the ability to splash and/or increasing or decreasing power level. I’m having trouble trying to grasp this particular design choice in relation to the color pie and the flavor of Magic; for example; why is Deep Analysis 3U and Concentrate 2UU? I’m really curious about your thoughts.

You’re mostly there. It all comes down to the Color Pie. Doesn’t it always?

Split Second – Semi-Blog Post

The sun flare is not photoshopped. There was a sunny day in Seattle

http://wp.me/p5VSx-1cz

A few things real quick here.

1. Card Kingdom’s new location. Some people were wondering where it was and I left it out of my posts. It was a conscious decision as I didn’t want it to take away from the feel of the pieces. Now that it’s opening today, it might be a good idea to tell you where it is.

Card Kingdom
5105 Leary Ave. NW
Seattle, WA 98017

Clicking on that link will take you to the Google Maps link and you can find your way from there. The building is on the West side of the street and you’ll see the image above and know you’re there. Across the street there is a small parking lot surrounded by a chain link fence that’s completely ok for you park in; Card Kingdom has rights to park there. There’s no clear sign for it nor is there a crosswalk (yet) but you’ll see it when you drive by.

The hours for Cafe Mox and the store are from 10-10 (I’m heading down there today to go try out the lunch. Watch my twitter feed). You’ll get my full report about the store not this week but sometime next week (once all the hoopla from the NPH prerelease dies down).

Phyrexian Mana Brings All the Boys to the Yard

http://wp.me/p5VSx-1bK

Last week, Wizards announced their Buy a Box promo and debuted a new mechanic that, I will make no bones about, absolutely love. If you want to learn all about it (and I’m sure you do since you’re going to be seeing plenty of these cards), go to the page here and read the FAQ.

But for the discussion today we’re going to be focusing on two aspects: 1) paying 2 life and 2) what that actually means. We’re going to get to why this is the right time to print mechanic, how I’ve faced a similar problem with this before (in a round about abstract way), and I’m going to answer everyone’s favorite speculation question with more speculation, a new Force of Will.

And you know how much I hate speculation. Especially when people put fake cards and so many people think that it’s real and it gets passed around the internet and…

Take a deep breath, Robby. *Sigh* Here we go.
